Rutherfords is the perfect antidote to modern life. The very FIRST Micropub in Scotland. Pop in for a perfect pint of Real Ale, a hand-raised pork pie, a very special, fresh cocktail or Scottish craft gin on-tap, through a microscope. Yes... really. We also now offer our own totally natural cocktails, including Pornstar Martinis and our own take on the Cosmo... the Kelsopolitan! Great chat and NO interruptions from music, gaming machines or Television. It's the small things in life that matter.
Visited this cool little micro pub twice on two cold wintery days and had the warmest of welcomes. Superb beers and gins. Cozy and quirky, friendly atmosphere and even a folk group who put a huge smile on our faces with their rendition of BeeGees ‘Stayin’ Alive’ :-)

We offer Alpaca treks, visits, parties and more. We welcome visitors to our small holding to see our Alpacas, take them for a walk or to enjoy some time with these wonderful animals.
It was a great visit. Lynn tailored the session to us and let us take Caesar on a little walk even though we had only booked the 30-minute meet an alpaca session. We learnt a lot and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The scenery is fabulous. It worked very well for our 5 and 8-year-olds.

This site is closed for now. We’re working hard to gradually reopen the places you love while making sure the experience is safe for everyone. Sited high on a rocky outcrop, Smailholm is a small rectangular tower set within a stone barmkin wall. This 65 ft towerhouse was built by a well-known Scottish Borders family in the first half of the 15th century, and today you can enjoy stunning views of the surrounding countryside from Smailholm Tower’s battlements. Inside the tower is a model of this Pringle residence and a charming collection of costume figures and tapestries relating to Sir Walter Scott's Minstrelsy of the Scottish Borders. It was the sight of Smailholm that fired Walter Scott's imagination when, as a young boy, he was brought up by his grandparents at the nearby farm of Sandyknowe.
I made the effort to walk up to tower, and I’m so glad I did. It’s nothing special, however the views you get are breathtaking.

Situated next to Kelso Abbey you will find this wonderful tribute to all the brave hero’s of wars gone by. It’s so nice that it’s been well respected as well, as it stands in outstanding grounds.

This 12th-century abbey was one of the finest examples of Romanesque architecture.
I was up in Kelso for the racing, and had been told so much about the abbey, that I just had to visit. Considering it’s age, it’s remarkable. Steeped in history along with beautiful ground to admire, this has to be a “must visit” whenever you’re in Kelso.
