Cregennan Lakes

We were driving along the A493 coast road on the west near here and saw the sign so thought we would take a look. I must warn you it is quite a hair raising drive from this side! Step, narrow, with few passing places, hair pin bends and a crest you drive over where the angle is so high you momentarily cannot see if there is anything the other side! Plus you will need to own farm gates as you go along, don't feel like we initially did that you are going the wrong way! We were amazed when we finally got there to see so many vehicles in the car park. We left from the other exit which takes you towards Dolgellau and this is a much easier route. Views here are stunning and we climbed up the big rocky hill near here to get a view looking down which was well worth it, despite winds that felt like they would knock us off

Barmouth Harbour

Barmouth developed as one of the major ship building centres in Wales during the 18th & 19th centuries. The harbour still has a small fishing industry but is mainly used by pleasure craft. The estuary is home to Merioneth Yacht Club. Lining the edge of the harbour are cafes, ice-cream parlours and a pub with pleasant gardens to sit out in and watch the world go by.

I love it here in the harbour. It can be bustling or of a late evening really quiet. Either has it’s own beauty. There’s some great places to eat and drink around the harbour and lots to chose from to fit every taste and budget. The views are stunning here of the bridge, estuary and mountains! You can catch a small ferry to take you across the estuary where you can go for a walk or catch the Fairbourne miniature railway. We love spending time here when we visit.
