We consider ourselves extremely lucky to live near such a lovely coastline and Indeed being able to walk here during lockdown kept us sane. We are particular fans of the coast around seaham - Whether you visit noses’s point, vane tempest or seaham hall the scenery is stunning! We also love to look for sea glass too Have travelled the world and would struggle to name a more beautiful coastline Unlike other coastal areas parking is free too and the beaches are rarely crowded.

Love the North Gare and Teesmouth area, it is stunning. Free car park which is always a bonus, then you can just wander. At low tide it is nice to walk all the way along the sand to the mouth of the Tees, and round towards the Able yard where the crabbing rings are. Seals often pop up in the water or along the sands. Fantastic array of wildlife, stunning views, great to watch the ships come in and out of the Tees, and a great back drop of current and declined industry. Lovely sands where you can sit and watch the world go by, beach is pretty clean, and despite the industry, water is crystal clear. Lots of crabs and sand eels about. If you are careful, go onto the old pier at the North Gare and walk to the end - it really does feel like you are at the end of the world!

We spent a week in Seaham for the seaglass. This beach is rocky, and there are areas of runoff, so rain boots or something waterproof is recommended. It's best to head out two hours before low tide, so you can be there as the ocean deposits its treasure. Be sure to keep track of the tide though, as some areas of the beach get completely covered at high tide. It's breezy, so make sure you dress in layers.

We recently discovered North Gare and are enjoying walking amidst the sand dunes and then along the beach to Seaton Carew. The beach is clean and there are thousands and thousands of tiny shelves to look at in places - even some sea glass and tiny shards of pretty pottery. The area is always very popular with dog walkers, especially when we visit early on a morning between 9-11am mid-week. There is a free carpark in North Gare and lots of routes you can walk amongst the sand dunes before you reach the open beach and start walking towards Seaton Carew. As always when visiting the beach, check the tide times before you make the journey.

This was really, really busy during the 1950's/60's (interesting sign boards containing historic photographs/information) and yet nowadays id quiet and unspoiled. A must visit for those interested in sea birds and general nature.
