This is located immediately next to reception in Best Western Kastell hotel. The receipt shows Best Western. But it's independent. Cash or card. No charging to room. Friendly, efficient staff. Fairly obvious they'd rather be socialising with their friends, many of whom seem to be hanging around in Juls Bar, wandering in and out of the sliding door, presumably to smoke, drafty every time they open it. Lots of hugging and whooping and noise. Not sure if they work at the hotel or bar but it was all very familiar and to be honest I felt I was intruding by asking for a beer. The food was strange but it does say Steak in the title. Steak, steak, steak or steak or burger. No fish. No pizza. A veggie burger option. Steak well cooked. A bit rare for medium but good. Small salad and kraut. Decent food and not bad price for a hotel. But then, it's not part of the hotel. Or is it. It's a bar, and restaurant. There's a cat. It's in behind the bar. It's in between the tables. Don't say aaah, a cute cat. I'm indifferent to cats but I don't want one under my chair and wandering behind the bar. It's not hygienic. Pic attached. Would put me off staying at this hotel.

We had an unexpected great evening at the Eckstein Restaurant-Bar. Besides the nice food and drinks, it was the atmosphere that created a perfect evening. We meet new friends, enjoyed the great bartender and loved the way people interact all together. We will come back for sure!A Dutch lady and her boyfriend from Switserland
We came for aperitif at 6:30 and had to wait almost an hour for some of our snacks up to a point when they were finally served with the mains BUT only after several complaints. Food itself was good. Our steaks were decently cooked but unfortunately served lukewarm. (One could have heated the plates before serving.) Setting allright next to train station. Quiet little town.

It was a hot evening and we sat outside. Although the outdoor seating area is quite close to the road, it's not too noisy. We'd done a lot of cycling and the lads were hungry and thirsty. Time to tuck into to solid German food. I wasn't too hungry so chose Flammkuchen spezial from the "fuer den kleinen Hunger" section, not knowing what Flammkuchen was. When it arrived, it looked like a pizza without the tomato sauce layer and was huge. Very tasty and I ate most of it. One of the lads had Schweinhaxe mit Sauerkraut and the other had Schwabenpfaennle (pork medallions, Maultasche and Spaetzle with cream sauce). Real man food. They were delighted with themselves. The service was good - very attentive but not intrusive. Three decent meals, two pitchers of the dark beer, and a small Weizen came to â¬57.60. Very reasonable.
