Things to do in Junee
Was harder to find places open for breakfast in Junee than anticipated. A surprising number of places were closed, maybe it was the long weekend? So we ended up a Cafe Maddison, and sometimes these places serve up those old fashioned breakfasts, those from the bygone days before anyone smashed an avo, or discovered sourdough bread. This place did come through on the standard white bread thing, and there wasn't an avocado in sight. But the food was generally unpleasant. The coffee was undrinkable. There was really no redeeming features, except, my daughter ordered a chocolate thickshake. And we've had our fair share of thickshakes around Australia in the last few years, and I have to say, this was THE best thickshake we have had. It was thick, the straw stood up straight - surprisingly hard to find. So don't bother with the food - but go and grab a thickshake, they're nearly worth the 2 hour drive for us!

If the walls could talk in this over 100 year old pub and it's a delight to have our unique little coffee shop in the main bar room with it's Westminster carpet, green tiles and original bar taking pride of place. There are markings of the old pub life fr
There wasn't much choice for lunch when we visited Junee and we found ourselves at Betty's on Broadway in a what was once grand pub but which now serves as a museum. The service was friendly and we enjoyed our toasted ham, cheese and tomato sandwiches. However the general atmosphere of decay and neglect was rather depressing and we can't really recommend this venue.
The Roundhouse Restaurant provides a changing al-a-carte menu that's suites most diners and caters for many dietary requirements including vegan and celiac. Michael enjoys using as much local produces that he can so you will be sure to find Junee Lamb on
Roundhouse Restaurant and The Crossing Motel is where our group stayed. The meals were great and Michael and his team were very friendly and obliging. For our Coach group main meals were alternated except Wednesday night when we had a yummy baked dinner. Could not fault any meals and alcohol was available for those who wanted a 'stronger' drink.

Had dinner at this venue which is conveniently located close to the heart of town. It has a log fire located in the dining room which was fantastic. There was an excellent selection of beers on tap as well as a non-alcoholic selection from the bar. My steak was cooked perfectly, chips were fresh, and vegetables nice and crunchy. Both the bar and bistro service was quick and staff were incredibly polite. Toilets were also clean. Glad we chose this venue over other options near-by.

There is nothing like a meal in the Railway Station Cafe at Junee. Located in the old Railway refreshment room in the station. This place just oozes olden day charm. Many a time I came into here when it was run by the railways. Passengers arrived on the South Mail at 0725 after a long, cold and coffeeless journey that started in Sydney the previous night at 2230. It was a bee line to the long counter for army style service. Sausages and thick gravy to die for (!) and lukewarm milky coffee poured from a pot. No cappuccino machines then! Everyone was fed in 20 mins and were ready to continue their journey on the Griffith, Tocumwal and Albury lines. For many years, Debbie has run this now private business. A full range of cafe style food is offered. When we were regularly travelling between Sydney and Melbourne, we would regularly stop over in Junee, having breakfast here. On this visit, Debbie immediately recognised us even though we only pass by much less frequently. She even asked about our daughter who was not with us this time. The railway station cafe is fully recommended. However do check the opening hours as on the weekend, they only do breakfast and morning tea Saturday between 9 and 12.
