Things to do in Columbus
The restaurant is located near the back gate of Columbus AFB in a small group of shops. They do have a small town. It is run by a Korean who has a superb menu of not just Korean food, but other Asian food as well. THey are open from 10:30 AM - 6:00 PM, Monday-Friday. They have some great Korean dishes including Bulgogi (Pork, Chicken or Beef) and GTalbi (griled beef ribs) They have great Udon (Japanese noodle soup) with shrimp. My favorite dish they have is the Curry Rice. Its a generous serving of yellow curry with vegetables with eirther beef, pork chicken or shrimp over rice. Its so wonderful! It's a hidden secret near the Air Base that needs to find a location near downtown and it will really get some attention.
When Billy Wang, owner of Umi Restaurant in Columbus and Starkville and partner Mark Castleberry of Castle Properties were naming their new Cajun-Asian Seafood restaurant they looked for a name that would capture the heart and soul of the Cajun fare they
Surprised at the negative reviews on here, maybe we just caught them on a good day. We finally got by there yesterday and it was great. Food was really good even though they were out of calamari and Cameron was very attentive. We will be back for sure.Thank you for your kind words! We are so glad you enjoyed your meal and even more happy to hear that Cameron took good care of you. We will make sure to share this with Cameron! Looking forward to seeing you again soon.
Food was ok. Nothing special. Very expensive for what we received. Pad Thai had one tsp of peanuts, a few small slices of chicken and just a few bean sprouts. Desserts were less than amazing. Maybe 1/4 of a mango in each. A medium sized plate of noodles for $13-14 was not my idea of money well spent. Location was nice, as was our server.
If you live in Columbus you need to check this out. Air Force folks take notice! If you're visiting and tired of bbq and the same old, hit this place. It's an unassuming storefront in an unassuming plaza that hides real deal Asian, mostly Thai food. We had basil fried rice and Drunken noodles (also called pad kee Mao) and it was fresh, with great spicing, in generous quantities. If you don't like it spicy tell them. Don't you want some pineapple fried rice right now??? They serve beer. Dang, try something different and real! Owners are super nice (but shy until you talk with them). Loved it. Going back!

Although this place is definitely dated, the fare is well above average. Portions are very good, hot, and made when ordered. The recipes are slightly toned down just a bit compared to big city full blown Oriental places, but still very good. Friendly, attentive staff and prices are very reasonable. When in the mood for Oriental, don't pass on this place.

I was really excited because of the reviews, but I found UMI to be very average in all regards. Service was fine, but the food was not impressive at all. The Philly and California rolls were very badly made and mostly avocado. The teriyaki chicken had an odd taste and the fried rice was very salty.Very disappointing.
