Previously, the town had gone by the names of Slabtown, Rosaville, San Simeon and Santa Rosa. The corresponding census designated place (CDP) had a population of 6,032 at the 2010 census, slightly down from 6,232 at the 2000 census.

Moonstone Cellars

Conceived in a basement overlooking Moonstone Beach (yes, hillside basements in Cambria can have nice views), Todd Clift and his dad, Muril, began making wine in 1998. The hobby quickly got out of control, and blossomed into a full time passion. Todd chucked his corporate job to become an apprentice at local winery, just six miles south of Cambria. Under the tutelage of a 21-year winemaker who has won over 500 awards, he worked through four crush seasons before releasing his first vintages. Todd proudly crafts his wines from Central Coast grapes. Moonstone Cellars offers a wide range of varietals from a light and crisp Sauvignon Blanc to an off-dry Gewurztraminer; a supple Grenache to a full bodied Petite Sirah. Come visit us at our tasting room in in the West Village of Cambria (just blocks from the original hillside basement). We are open daily from 11 to 5.

Susanna and Andy are the best!! Knowledgeable and friendly and they make sure you leave happy. The wine is always fabulous. From start to finish. We have a hard time deciding on one bottle. Their outside tasting area will keep you warm and covid safe. Don't forget the seasoning rubs... great on popcorn!!

We fell in love with this winery while staying in Cambria. To be honest, I just booked a here because it was the closet winery to our vacation rental. We loved it so much that we visited a total of three times. I made a reservation to sit at a picnic table in their grassy area next to the tasting room. From the moment we got there, Katie made us feel like family. She was delightful. Stolo has done such a nice job of practicing safety protocols (social distant tables, masks, hand sanatizer). The view is amazing and the wine is great. I wish I was there right now enjoying a nice pinot noir and looking at the hillside.

Great people operating a tasting room with personality. The evening we visited had a young gentleman playing an acoustic guitar. They provided great snacks to pair with their lovely wines. Nice location in Cambria adding to the charm of the city.

We spent a quick weekend away in Cambria with the intention of visiting some of the wine tasting rooms in the town. We stopped at Black Hand Cellars and are we glad did. We tasted 5 wines and enjoyed all 5. We left with four bottles of his Reds. The wine is outstanding and the owner is too. He spent time with us explaining his background as a self-taught winemaker. He learned his lessons well. Looking for good wine and a fun time go to Black Hand Cellars

My husband and I reserved a wine tasting. We were so pleased with how they were following social distancing guidelines. All five wines were delicious!!!! Our server is an expert! We were VERY impressed with all her knowledge about wine. Overall, I definitely recommend going here while you are in Cambria.
