When we first arrived in Albania we weren't expecting to stay for as long as we did. We initially rented a car for two weeks, then ended up extending the lease a couple more times for two months total. The car was in excellent condition and was very comfortable. We went everywhere with this car with no issues at all! =D Bledi, the owner, was super easy to work with every time, courteous, responsive, and very professional. He and the staff were so nice that they even offered to take us to the airport at no extra charge. We highly recommend this car rental company to everyone visiting Albania. You won't be disappointed!

Komani Lake Ferry Berisha

This ferry from Koman to Fierza in northern Albania is a great way to see the Albanian Alps (and an alternative if you don't want to hike). The ferry is a part of the backpacker route to Valbona Valley National park that is seeing an explosion in visitors on motorcycle and camper - see it before it becomes Albanian Disneyland! The ferry travels between two damns and takes about 2 hours. There is a (covered) rooftop deck and an indoor lower cabin if the weather is bad. There is no food or drink service, so bring your own. The ferry tickets can be purchased online ahead of time (recommended during high season) or on board. The ferry carries cars, motorbikes and pedestrians. The cost is 5 euro per person (vehicles extra). NOTE that there are several ferries (3 I saw) with different schedules. KomaniLakeFerry (dot com) is where you can purchase tickets and see time tables. We took the "Berisha" ferry. Hotels in Shkoder (largest city in the area - 2 hours away on Lake Skader) will arrange minibus transport to the Koman ferry landing. The minibuses leave Shkoder at 6:30 a.m. in order to arrive in Koman before the 9 a.m. ferry departure. We saw some camping areas advertised along the road from Shkoder to the Koman ferry landing, but no town or hotels. At the other end of the ferry trip, in Fierza, there is no town, only a restaurant. Minibuses meet each ferry and travel on to the tiny village of Valbona which is the gateway to Valbona Valley National Park (highly recommended). Bring cash as the few restaurants and guest houses in Valbona do not accept credit cards. From there many people return they way they came or make the hike to Theth (6-8 hours) where they catch transport south. We hired a driver (70 euro) to take us to Prizren in Kosovo (2 hour trip). With elements of Norway's fjords and Patagonia's peaks, this route is highly recommended.
