Great day at Plitvice Lakes with Jean-Claude. We were tight on time and Jean-Claude managed to get us round all the lakes in five and a half hours, which was perfect. We took the boat up and the shuttle back down which cut off two additional walks, but we didn’t feel we were missing anything too significant by doing that. It pays to go early as the park gets busy very quickly. We were fortunate not to have to wait for the boat or the shuttle (which is rare, queues can be long) which worked well with our time restrictions. Don’t make the same mistake that we did and buy your tickets ahead of time without speaking to Jean-Claude first. We bought the wrong gate and the tickets are non-refundable. But Jean-Claude made it work and we stopped at loads of viewing points in the lower lakes. The colours are amazing and Jean-Claude gave us a great explanation of the formation and how things are still changing. The upper lakes are larger and greener, but just as pretty in a different way. It was also nice to have the tree cover from the sun. If we had walked by ourselves we wouldn’t have seen anywhere near as much of the park as we did or been as well informed as we were. It’s not a challenging walk, but knowing your way around – and where the bottlenecks are – is invaluable.

Everything on the 4-hour trip we experienced during the 2CV-meeting in Samobor, was perfect (even the weather - very good organisation ;): bikes, scenery, very friendly and helpful guides, good wine-tasting, and very good trout for lunch! The contact with the guides was very open and personal! I would do it anytime again, if I had the chance :)
