Waverley Mansion is one of the most outstanding antebellum plantation homes in the South. After having been vacant for over 50 years, the Snow family purchased it and slowly and lovingly restored it to its original glory. It is furnished with outstanding antiques and features original mirrors, chandeliers, books, trunks, and other items. It can be reached by boat on the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway or by car via Highway 50 from either West Point or Columbus. The most amazing feature is the 65 foot high entrance hall crowned by an octagonal cupola. Listed on The National Register of Historic Buildings and A National Historic Landmark, the property was recently listed on the Civil War Trail.
I love old houses and their history, and I have wanted to visit Waverley for a long time. The house is remarkable, with a very nice collection of furnishings. The tour guide was knowledgeable and very entertaining. We have visited and toured many, many houses in the South, and the $10 admission is quite reasonable and well worth it! I agree with other reviewers that the home is in need of continued restoration. I only mention this in the hopes that some attention will be given to some of the repairs needed to preserve this piece of history, not to discourage your visit.

While West Point isn't the metropolis that would justify high end hotels, we did expect for $300 per night we would be getting the best around. The villa overall wasn't bad it was just very very dated. Corroded brass and cultured marble with low end furniture did NOT impress. The wifi was good and the tv was large. Beautiful view of the course and pond from the patio. That's about all of the nice things I can say. The kitchen in the villa was dated dingy appliances. The decor was hodge podge. It was as if the owner took each piece from a different decor style from several house and stuck it under one roof. Not sure what other options exist for a 2 bedroom but for 300 a night I expected much much better.

My child and I visited this museum on a Friday. It was hot in the museum. They were working on the air conditioner inside. However terry Craig provided the best time considering the circumstances. My 3 year old did want to leave. Mr Craig told us that he would run the h o scale train as long as he could. Which he did.
One thing you need to do is the scavenger hunt there is a reward if you complete hint hint!
I plan on returning soon!

Mossy Oak Golf Club is a partnership between Gil Hanse (Architect of The Rio Olympic Golf Course), Mossy Oak, and The George and Marcia Bryan Family (Owners of Old Waverly Golf Club). Mossy Oak Golf Club combines golf and nature in a manner that appeals to the outdoorsman in every golfer and the golfer in every outdoorsman.
Truly a fun course. Give 4 stars because it is such a young course. Played the 6500 tees. More than enough. This course is going to mature into a very special place. It's still young. If your first time make sure use the fore caddy. Very helpful. I will go back.
