Te Matua Ngahere Walk

Reviewed By Kiwiintheus - Levin, New Zealand

I was blown away with the walk, how quiet it was, and how majestic the Kauri trees were. They stand like soldiers guarding the forest and the secrets within. The walk was easy going and about 1.3 km to Te Matua Ngahere. There was certainly something special about this place.

Waipoua Forest

Beautiful roadside stop. I live in California where we have giant redwoods and sequoias. The Kauri tree is just as majestic as these. The walk is pretty easy and the man-made boardwalks easy to navigate. Definitely worth a stop to see these beautiful, giant trees if you are traveling through the north west part of the North Island of New Zealand.

Good, easy walk to see the Four sisters - there is a board walk platform right around them and it's perhaps 10 minutes total from the carpark. You can go on from these trees to the 2nd largest Kauri in NZ (Te Matua Ngahere). There are a lot of reasonable sized Kauri (and other trees) on the track. Very peaceful surroundings.
