Tarangambadi or Tranquebar was the only Danish colony in India from 1620 to 1845. It was then sold to British East India Company. This 17 th century fort popularly known as Dansborg stands as a testimony to the engineering skills of Danes. It withstood the Tsunami and still in good condition. There is a small museum inside. The fort is closed on Fridays. Entry fee is only five ruppees and camera fees is thirty rupees.

The Zion Church wasn't keen to accept the converted, native Tamil Christians. Also, the native Tamil Christians didn't want to congregate at the European Zion Church because they were unsure of the Europeans' morals. So, Bartholomäus Ziegenbalg helped in setting up this church to address the problem. We didn't get a chance to go inside but admired its façade from outside.

This temple was built in the 17th century. But, sadly, it didn't seem to be in use anymore, perhaps because it was ravaged by the tsunami too. Facing the temple & looking to your left, you can catch a glimpse of Neemrana's Bungalow on the Beach & Dansborg Fort. There's a promenade from the temple to the beach. The temple colors become even more vivid during the golden hours. We saw the damage done by the seawater to this Pandya temple. Time seems to have frozen in Tranquebar...
