A 1.1-million-acre wildlife refuge surrounding Fort Peck Lake.
If you are interested in watching elk and hearing them bugel during rutting season, this is the place to do it! Bring a chair, your binocs and some snacks; there is plenty of area to just pull over and watch the wildlife.

The theatre along with the entire town of Fort Peck was built by the US Army Corps of Engineers in the 1930's as part of building Fort Peck Dam. In its heyday, of the mid 1930's movies ran around the clock to entertain the workers. The Theatre is now a Historic Landmark and is now owned by the Fort Peck Fine Arts Council and has live performances on weekends in the summer.
This small community and elegant historic building come together each summer to host fabulous live theater. Some of the performers come from all around Montana. The performances are top notch in every way. As a bonus, go early to a show and spend some time around Fort Peck Reservoir. Boating, fishing, swimming, ... just a few things to do at the enormous body of water. Also, great food and accommodations are just a stones' throw away. What are you waiting for? Make plans now for one of the many summer shows. You will not be disappointed.

This superb fishing reservoir measures 140 miles long and is considered the largest in Montana.
Once you get to Jordan, MT, the reservoir is 25 miles north on a dirt road and let me tell you - it is worth every bump and jiggle! Water, water, 134 MILES of water!!! This is the 5th largest artificial lake in the USA. Has a cute little marina and lots of camp sites (although, there was still so much water, there were a few still under water). The landscape is stunning and oh, did I mention, this is where one of the most complete T-REX specimens was discovered - soon to be displayed in the Smithsonian? Heard the fishing was pretty good with many different species of fish but alas, we did not have our poles! Would love to come back and camp for a couple of days!!

Interesting place with plenty of information about the history of the dam, as well as some paleontic and prehistoric information about the area (including some dinosaur replicas), wildlife in the area and the Lewis & Clark expedition. Three films are shown (one on the building of the dam, another on the Lewis & Clark Expedition, and a third on the CM Russell Wildlife Refuge). This would be a great place to start a trip through the area, of you have never been.
