lots of cameras around is always a good sign there is something worth looking at and remembering nearby ..... my trip to Eerguna was such an experience. I think dawn and dusk are probably the best times to get that magic shot of the wetlands, but from the vantage point of the hill overlooking the maze anytime of the day will bring a result. The walkways, although not disabled friendly, provide an opportunity for a variety of angles as they go right down to the river. If you keep your eyes open and are not too noisy you can occasionally glimpse some of the local wildlife ...... squirrels and birds. Eerguna has lots of great restaurants and is a lovely clean little city. Not a lot of English speakers there but they are taught the language in school and one of the main high schools recently acquired a young English teacher who has just completed his Masters at an English University, so I can imagine there will soon be lots of young people keen to test their skills talking to foreigners. It is an easy drive from Hulun Beier and well worth the effort, especially if you add a trip to the Russian border at Sherwi to your agenda.

great food, the russian/chinese mix of shops and restaurants gives the town a special feel. There is a small souvenir shop near the bridge that has a surprisingly good variety of souvenirs at very reasonable prices. I love the town.

For a foreigner from Scandinavia or north Europe, this forest is not very special. We have a lot of this forest here, so I would not recommend to spend much time on this attraction. There much more other nice things to see, and the distance from Eerguna city to this place is a very long drive and it's only a forest. You can pay some extra to see a reindeer, but for Scandinavian its not worth the price.
BUT for people coming from countries with little of this, then this attraction can be worth seeing. If you living in a big city or a farmerland with no trees, I can recommend this as a nice trip. Bring some food and drink, take the trip as a day trip. Relax and enjoy the nice forest and the clean air.
But when I was there in August 2015 there was a very big road reconstruction and the temporary road was VERY poor, but I hope this is finished by now. We could not drive faster than 10 to 20 km/h for a long part, due to bad road and heavy traffic.
So I hope this was useful for you folks.
