Had a great time visiting the ranch buildings and learning more about the history of John and Viola Slaughter. The property includes several ranch animals, many of which are rescue animals from the region, including horses, buuros, longhorn cattle, goats, and sheep. There is also a very large spring-fed pond with lots of cottonwoods and many varieties of bird species including vermilion flycatchers, Gila woodpeckers, and ring billed ducks. We topped off our afternoon with the stroll above the property on the old Fort grounds and took in the sights of the San Bernardino national wildlife refuge and a cross the border into Mexico. A really enjoyable afternoon.
