I don't recommend staying at the yurts during summer months. The mosquito were awful. It is difficult to access the small lake by the yurts. The yurts themselves are cute, but not ideal for summer sleeping. The yurts should have been placed over by the Pennington boat landing. That would have been MUCH more ideal location. They are remote and off the beaten path a bit too much. You must haul all your stuff up a stiff hill. More work than what I had bargained for.

4 stars means that I was glad we stopped at the park and would go back, but it wasn't so great that I think it's a must do for everyone

There used to be an old and dilapidated park here. Two women came up with the idea of the community coming together to raise funds to rebuild the park to have something that the kids could really enjoy. So they helped to raise the funds and the community actually built the park. Pretty cool.

Anyway, the playground area was nice and there were things to do for older kids as well as a toddler area. I thought the play structures were original and different and my daughter and niece definitely enjoyed.

In addition to the playground area, there is also a swimming beach on Serpent Lake. So, in many ways, this place has it all.

Cuyuna Brewing Company

It’s not just about the beer. It’s about the people, the camaraderie, the community. It’s about sipping a beer steeped in Cuyuna’s industrial roots. It’s about embracing our world-renowned red dirt trails and deep-blue, crystal-clear mine lakes. It’s about creating something bigger than all of us. We look forward to bringing this “can do” community together through our beer and this brewery. At Cuyuna Brewing Company we have two goals: quality and experience. We promise to relentlessly pursue these goals, ensuring that every person walking through our door has the highest quality beer in their hands and has an authentic Cuyuna experience. Not only do we want our patrons to enjoy the beer, we want them to learn more, and love more, about this place we call Cuyuna.

Having visited several taprooms and brewery's now, this was where a bit of disappointment sunk in. There are plenty where people spend a few thousand dollars to make a shabby chic, combination of old, industrial and modern elements to make a warm space, and some games and then brew just OK Beer. These are good for local venues but probably not worth a special visit. I ordered a flight of 4 5oz samples for $8, so their prices where reasonable but i never took my jacket off as it was so cold inside. The tables are all old wooden electrical wire spools, just cut down with black piping legs. They have some fun names to their beers but i just didn't experience anything special.

A destination for those in search of antiques.

Have visited Crosby several times while staying at Ruttger's Resort, 5 miles away. Crosby has a spectacular kids play ground 2 short blocks from Main Street. That's strongly recommended. The main feature of Main Streets are a few restaurants (North Country the best) and 4 or 5 antique shops.

Soo Line Depot Museum

5 stars means that I had an enjoyable time at this attraction and would go back. In fact, I had such a good time that I think everyone should make a point of stopping by.

The name is a bit deceiving. While the museum is located on the site of an old train depot, this is actually a museum about the Crosby and surrounding area. The museum is staffed by very enthusiastic volunteers. My daughter and I got a guided tour and it was fantastic.

Learn about the Air Force program "Man High" which was a precursor to NASA. A man went up 19 miles in the atmosphere (launched from the bottom of a local mine pit) in a tin cylinder attached to what looks like a flimsy hot air balloon in order to research the effects on the human body. Ultimately, that research was useful in our getting to the moon in 1969.

Or, learn about the mine accident in 1924 that still is the greatest mining disaster in US history.

The Soo Line Depot Museum isn't the largest you'll ever see, but it's one of the best I've been too. My 9 year old and I had a great time.
