Secunderabad ( listen (help·info), also spelled sometimes as Sikandar-a-bad) is the twin city of Hyderabad located in the Indian state of Telangana. Named after Sikandar Jah, the third Nizam of the Asaf Jahi dynasty, Secunderabad was founded in 1806 as a British cantonment. Although Hyderabad and Secunderabad are together referred to as the twin cities, they have both different histories and cultures, with Secunderabad having developed directly under British rule until 1948 and Hyderabad as the capital of the Nizams' princely state of Hyderabad.

The Mahabodhi Buddha Vihara is situated at a good elevation in East Maredpally and is close to secunderabad. The architecture is splendid. Residents of the city and nearby can avail the meditation and Dhamma ( Spiritual ) sessions conducted here. Besides they have vast books on meditation and buddhism written by renowned monks from srilanka, Myanmar, Thailand, India etc.; in languages of English, Telugu and Hindi. This is one of the most peaceful and spiritual places in the city not to be missed.

Visited this temple on friday in ashada month with my family and was very crowded. Had a wonderful darshan of kali ammavaru and felt very happy. Bonalu is the main festival celebrated here, people from all over telangana come here for bonalu jathara to offer naivedyam (rice, curd, spinach, neem leaves, turmeric, kumkum) and receive blessings of the goddess. Every friday vadi biyyam (turmeric rice) is offered to ammavaru and everyday kumkuma archana & pushpa puja is performed here. All the wishes are fulfilled if you have great faith. A must visit temple in Secunderabad.
