It’s a great walk, next to the river, easy path to walk, with wide metal path so you can walk side by side, besides the sculptures there are often lots of birds on the river and at present the daffodils are flowering, we do take the dog some times but needs to stay on the lead.

Tuapiro Point

Met up with our son, his wife and our one year granddaughter for a random walk and we couldn’t have discovered a nicer place. It was idyllic as we parked on the green next to some horses who trotted off along the sand. We also had a ridgeback dog with us who loved the open space and water. The houses and boats were upmarket in a beautiful place. Lovely couple of hours walking and talking.

Katikati Bird Gardens

Beautiful harbourside country gardens. Adults $10 Children $6 . Family 2 +2 $28. Huge trees, ponds and wetlands. A place to enjoy some solitude on your own or with company. Popular with local families at weekends to catch up over a coffee and bite to eat before a leisurely stroll through the grounds. Adults and children alike enjoy getting up close with our bantams and doves. There are also a small number of aviaries housing parrots, and enclosures for breeding pheasants and fancy bantams. Around the gardens natives such as Tui, Heron, Fantail and Grey warblers can usually be seen. Small privately owned relaxed family business where you can enjoy a break from travel, a coffee and pick up some great travel tips.

Started our visit with a coffee and cake in the cafe then wandered around the gardens. Bought a bag of bird food at the cafe to feed the very friendly chickens pigeons etc. Allow a couple of hours to wander around the large grounds and let the children explore the tree house. A very pleasant afternoon.
