The High Trestle Trail is just an amazing biking and walking trail just outside of Des Moines. It’s a flat, all paved concrete and asphalt, and about 26+ miles overall. My recording will show more time and mileage because I made several stops along the way and rode the Heart of Iowa Nature Trail for a bit as well. This is my 3rd ride on this trail and I never get tired of it. There are rest stops along the way with water and restrooms, tire pumps and bike repair stations, and several small towns with restaurants and breweries like Slater and Madrid. Of course the Trestle bridge is the highlight and be sure to ride it during the day, and enjoy the blue LED lights at night. It was a great day for riding and depending upon which way the wind is blowing you’re sure to have a headwind or tailwind in the open stretches but just take your time and enjoy the ride!

A visit to the Iowa Arboretum's 378-acre facility in scenic Boone County is an experience you won't want to miss. This site offers 40 acres developed as a 'Library of Living Plants' showcasing hundreds of species of trees, shrubs and flowers in a tranquil scenic setting. The Iowa Arboretum displays a large and diverse display of plants that can be successfully grown in Iowa. Grounds are open daily from sunrise to sunset year round.
Love going for walks on the pathways. The nature sights are endless! The gift shop has unique and not so unique items.

This is the place to visit for a perfect Sunday afternoon. Local bands provide great music under shady trees. Bring some cheese and crackers or your favorite picnic snacks. You can purchase bottles of fantastic wines with beer and soft drinks also available. There are lawn chairs but you are welcomed to bring your own. Plenty of parking. This is located a mile off a highway on a gravel road. Very family friendly with hula hoops, bocce ball, and sand tires for kids. Always a pick up game of some type of ball for kids behind the band shelter

Gorgeous place in the snow! Only a few campers, all widely spaced so you feel like you're the only one here. Quiet. Peaceful. Serene. The roads get plowed quickly. Canyon is closed to traffic and left unplowed. Makes a great walk from the campground. No running water. No restrooms. Electricity is on. Can use dump station but no water for flushing tanks. 50 amp electric sites only $11.
