While Cheyenne is the capital of Wyoming, it’s also considered America's rodeo and railroad capital. But there’s more to this Magic City of the Plains, with high tech taking advantage of using the mix of weather, landscape and populace for their latest innovations. Cheyenne is home to museums, historic hotels and mansions, a collection of heritage steam engines, western-themed attractions and shopping, resorts and ranches, a thriving arts community and a wide array of outdoor adventures.

You don't want to miss the new three story conservatory! It opened in August 2017. The Grand Conservatory features a tropical conservatory, a Navy submarine periscope (only open on Friday & Saturday), and several areas of respite. The Cheyenne Botanic Gardens is Wyoming’s only botanic garden. It exists in one of the most challenging gardening climates in the lower 48 states (high winds, regular hail, high altitude, little winter snow cover and unpredictable first and last frosts). Come explore our brand new Grand Conservatory as well as 27 specialty landscapes, where senior, youth and handicapped volunteers provide a majority of the physical labor. This is also home to Engine 1242, the oldest locomotive engine in Wyoming.
We had a wonderful morning at the Cheyenne Botanic Gardens! We arrived a bit before story time and my kids enjoyed playing in the water and teepees! I appreciate how the staff worked to maintain "social distancing" during story time and "planted" pages of the book in flower pots around the garden. We had fun following the arrows to read each page. Each staff member we encountered were friendly and obviously enjoyed their jobs. As a mom of a toddler, I also appreciate the step stool in the bathroom to help my son wash his hands! The gardens are free and a wonderful asset to the Cheyenne community! One of my new favorite things to do in Cheyenne!

Railroad buffs will enjoy seeing Old Number 4004, the world's largest steam locomotive, retired from service by the Union Pacific in 1956.
The engine is sitting in Holliday Park, which is a great park for families. The engine has a sign about its history and is a site to be seen. Without standing next to it you cannot image the size of the engine. A real piece of rail history.

I love this theater now that everything is updated. The seating is so comfortable, and they now have actual food to eat while enjoying a movie. Everyone is friendly and willing to assist you. This is our go to when we want to watch a new movie.
