Sammy's Organic Thai Cooking School

Reviewed By rhortonk - London, United Kingdom

Sammy picked us up from our hostel along with others that were attending the half day cooking school. We headed out of the city, into the local countryside (very welcome to get away from the pollution) and to the locals’ market. Sammy was informative and friendly and bought us things to try while walking around the market, explaining the spices that we would be using and how to source them, and good shortcuts, at home. Then we got to sammy’s beautiful spacious house and garden, where he showed us his herb garden, how to get your own fresh coconut milk, and other herbs that you can grow that we’re going on our own personalised dishes. We had a variety of children, veggies, pescatarians, and vegans all with tailored ingredients!! It’s a beautifully efficient and sweet family run business. The dishes were great, the garden was beautiful. We learnt Tom Yum soup, pad Thai, yellow curry, and mango sticky rice. And had an hour at the end to relax and chill in hammocks and his garden. Deff would recommend, £35 ish per person is a great price.

Thai Garden Farm Cooking Classes

Reviewed By sldi - Granada, Nicaragua

We had a fantastic cooking experience with Tian. After an interesting trip to the local market we were taken around their own truly amazing herb and vegetable garden. The kitchen had the best set up of any cooking class we have done: there is plenty of space, everything is very well organised and it was suitable for our girls aged 10 and 12. There was quite a bit of variety for us to choose from within the menu of the day and Tian easily accommodated that two of us don’t eat meat. The food was delicious and we were sent home with a great little recipe booklet that contains a wide variety of Thai favourites. I couldn’t recommend this class more!

Thai Secret Cooking School

Hi I am May! I am the owner and have always been the only instructor at Thai Secret Cooking School & Organic Garden in Chiang Mai Thailand. I opened my home to host Thai cooking classes 10 years ago and have many more years of experience teaching Thai cooking to people from all walks of life. I am playfully strict when teaching my half menu and full day menu. I want my cooking classes to be fun, educational, entertaining, most importantly a positively memorable experience for everybody. If you are not already a Master Chef, you will not be a Master Chef after my class. My classes are for people to casually enjoy a day cooking with me and new friends. Thai Secret is in the San Sai district of Chiang Mai, about 20 minutes from the old city mote area. Included in the price of my class is round trip transportation from the downtown area and my school. Touring the local Thai market, my garden, your own copy of Thai Secret Cookbook. Hope to cook with you soon! May Owner operated every day:)

From the punctual pick-up at our hotel to the reluctant goodbyes to May and her staff in the afternoon, the Thai Secret Cooking School must be the world's best kept secret! Our first stop was at the market where May gave a detailed and informative discussion of local produce and its various uses in northern Thai cuisine. After a drive out to her farm, we donned hats and aprons and picked and cut additional produce from her garden. After 16 years of teaching cooking, May conducted a group of amateur chefs (us) with an efficiency that she manages in an easy going style. The end result is a multi-course meal that we prepared from scratch -- from grinding the ingredients for curry paste to grating the coconut to make fresh coconut milk. The custom made cookbook we received at the end of the day was a perfect complement to everything we learned. There are many cooking schools in Chiang Mai, but a reservation at this one should be your top priority.

Siam Garden Cooking School

Learn to cook Thai food like a Thai, completely hands on! — from the Thai garden to the wok.

Art and Arty were great teachers even though we all were making different meals. I made a Thai Green Curry Paste, then Thai Green curry, Vegetable Spring Rolls, Pad Thai, Coconut cream soup and Mango sticky rice. Amazingly I could eat (and love) everything as I got to decide the spice level!! Art and Arty are also really funny, if you're Wnglish expect to be called geezer all day!! And in a pretty good London accent too hahah! We also got a tour of the local food market which was interesting as they knew so much about the foods and how they differ from western foods, how to buy them back home etc. And we all got a lovely cooking book!!
