As you paddle through the stunningly clear waters of the Goat Island Marine Reserve, you’ll get to see a variety of fish such as snapper, blue maomao and perhaps even some eagle rays and stingrays. Compared to outside a marine reserve, there is an amazing amount of fish and even the whole ecosystem is interesting with the only kelp forest in the area. Small but well presented building full of interactive displays and information. We may have been lucky to visit at a good time because we were there when a temporary resident octopus was being fed. We took our kids aged 6 and 9 before we went out snorkeling and it was a good compliment to that experience. We ended up staying much longer than I thought we would.
