On our historical travel through Germany down to the Balkans, we have decided to pay attention to one of the largest castle complexes in the world. On our travels through historical sites of Deutschland we decided to pay attention to Burghausen, which is by written accounts the longest castle in the world. Indeed it looks amazing! Situated on the low level ridge, the entire complex consist of 5 different parts, each and every one secured by the heavily defended gates - preserved defences can still be seen such as murder holes, one man entrance...Castle gates were usually the weakest part in the circuit of defence therefore they were most heavily defended. When we were passing the way to the end of the ridge to the main complex, we had a feeling walking from a castle to a castle. It is one of the most extensive castles in Europe. The town is named "Burg" which is the German name for the castle.
