It's such a beautiful space. I felt safe as Covid protocols were adhered to. And the aesthetician did a fantastic job and was very friendly.

If the local art isn't enough to tempt you, then the local food should be! You will not find more delicious produce than from our Salt Spring farmers. Real, flavourful, beautiful, hand-picked, organic freshness is at every turn. I LOVE getting an Opetepe coffee, a gluten-free treat from one of the many food vendors, a box of perfect ground-cherries or carrots, and sitting on the grass, shoes-off, watching the marimba band and folks dancing in the sunshine. Sound hippy- dippy? It might be a little, but in a way that will make you want to join in. ;) Parking sucks though, be warned.

Salt Spring Island Cheese Company

Salt Spring Island Cheese Company makes both sheep and goat milk cheeses. Come visit us on the farm where we are located, and sample all of our cheeses. There are windows into every room of our facility, so you can also see the entire cheesemaking process from start to finish.

This was one of the stops on our Salt Spring Island Tour and we really enjoyed it. The tasting itself was yummy with some great recommendation from the staff. You can wander around and visit the goats, view the making and packaging process. There are cheese and other items available for sale from the tasting room. An unexpected surprise was a really good quality lunch with a selection of sandwiches, pizza and soup. They conveniently provide you a buzzer once you place your order so you can continue to explore until lunch is ready.

Make sure to be driving a vehicle with high clearance, and four wheel drive a great asset. Even though this is a Parks BC location, it is very disappointing that the roadway and surface is very dangerous for most vehicles and drivers. There are also several hiking trails to be had. The view is second to none for seeing the lay of the land on Salt Spring Island.

Ruckle Provincial Park

We camped here for three nights in mid August 2020, during COVID-19 times. The campsite is beautiful with so many sites along the shore or at least easy access to the shoreline. There are easy hiking trails nearby in the park and there's even an old farm within walking distance that provides an interesting diversion. The majority of the campsites are first come-first served which was an important consideration with most Provincial Park campgrounds being booked solid during the summer of 2020. The sites are walk-in, meaning you'll have to carry your gear to your spot. For us that was a 750 metre trek. They provide a few wheelbarrows to help with transporting but if you have your own wagon that would be very helpful as the whelbarrows are always in demand. There is running water and pit toilets. No other facilities. There are some nearby freshwater lakes for swimming opportunities. Please be responsible campers and keep your garbage and noise levels to a minimum. This place is a paradise and I think we all want to keep it that way. Our stay was extremely enjoyable.
