Welcome into the Golden Age At the beginning of the 17th century Hoorn was one of the most important cities of Holland. Hoorn became wealthy because of trading with almost every country on the globe. Traces of this rich history are today still visible in this VOC-city. The Westfries Museum tells the story of this exciting period in history, also known as the Golden Age, of both the city as the region. The building itself, built in 1632 with its impressive Renaissance façade, is already worth visiting. Marvel over the more than 25 beautifully furnished rooms with paintings, china, glass- and silverware. The Schutterijzaal (Hall of the Marksmen’s Guild) takes pride of place with a total of four Night Watches of Hoorn: a unique quadriptych made around 1650 by Jan Albertsz Rotius also known as the Rembrandt of Hoorn.

Oude gevangenis Het Museum van de Twintigste Eeuw is gevestigd in een oude gevangenis op het prachtige Oostereiland bij de mooie haven van Hoorn. Daar beschikt het museum over een ruime MuseumShop, een ruimte voor de Educatieve Dienst waar o.A. Schoolklassen ontvangen kunnen worden, een voor publiek gesloten Depot en een Open Depot waar het publiek zelf kan zien wat er zoal wordt verzameld en beheerd.
