The Ballaarat Mechanics' Institute was established in 1859 and is part of the historical and cultural heart of Ballarat CBD. During its long history, the BMI has welcomed a diverse group from founding fathers, to miners and others seeking knowledge through education. All are welcome to visit for cultural events and exhibitions. Arrange a volunteer guided tour by contacting the BMI
Superb heritage building housing the general subscription library and the listed Heritage Library. Postcards and reproduced early views of Ballarat on sale and well worth the small cost.

The Eureka Flag is housed on the historic site of the 1854 Eureka Stockade and is surrounded by the scenic Eureka Stockade Memorial Gardens. Formerly known as the Museum of Australian Democracy at Eureka, the Eureka Centre is being re-imagined for the community with a stronger emphasis on the struggle of the young miners who fought for their rights and made an indelible mark on democracy in Australia. There is a gift shop and a cafe onsite offering snacks and lunches for visitors and the local community.
Beautiful spot with history of promise ,loss, wealth, luck and a lot of hardship. Through struggle for justice came blood shed. Amazing to see original flag, thank you the KING family. Can appreciate it's importance and why so strongly looked up to as it flew above the gold fields .Tanya the Centre attendant was fantastic ,greeted us all with a smile, great ambassador for the Eureka Centre and extremely friendly ,obliging and informative. To Listen to narrative of Clara Seekamps articles she wrote as a female activist of the times was really moving should be read in classes today . Do not forget though that along the way we also mistreated the first peoples of this land who had greeted us, yet we did not all show respect in return. Grounds around are tranquil and do not reflect the past now, definitely a MUST see and visit
