Sycamore Shoals State Historic Park

This park is a great balance between the brief but ever-so important history of Sycamore Shoals and great hiking. There are points along the trail to help hikers understand what occurred at Sycamore Shoals and why it was so important. This park also has an amphitheater which hosts all sorts of events. More information on this park and many more can be found at the TN State Parks website.

Frequent reenactments - some free, some with a charge (Liberty). These are always fun and the reenactors are very knowledgeable. The fort is well maintained as well as the trail. Sometimes when the reenactors are there you can go inside the fort buildings and they'll tell you about the life of those who lived there and answer questions about the buildings, life and people of that time. The trail is level with a few areas with some roots, but nothing that should cause a problem. The trail goes near water and has a little exercise area and a wooden swing as well. My favorite time to walk the trail is spring, but it is enjoyable year round. We frequently take visiting family here and they all have a good time.

The covered bridge and the area around it are well maintained. There are also picnic tables nearby if you wanted to picnic here. Would recommend it to those who like covered bridges.

The Carter Mansion

Tremendous tour of Carter Mansion...props to Taylor Moorefield for a most informative and enjoyable tour. Carter Mansion the oldest frame house in Tennessee. As always, the backstory surrounding those who lived in the house is what makes a tour special and this one delivers. From handwriting on the wall before soldiers arrived to wallpaper INSIDE a closet door to mysterious paintings on the wall and a cabinet that is part of the wall...this was a wonderful experience. Highly recommended.
