Top 5 Self-Guided Tours & Rentals in Hordaland, Western Norway

March 9, 2022 Esmeralda Fenner

Lying at the heart of Norway’s Western Fjord area, Hordaland is home to culturally rich Bergen, the country’s second largest city. Hardangerfjord, Norway’s second-longest fjord (and the third-longest in the world), is here too, and cruising along its scenic 110 miles is a top area activity. Leirvik, the second-biggest town in Hordaland, has the interesting open-air Sunnhordland Folk Museum. Set atop one of the country’s biggest glaciers, Folgefonna National Park has a popular summer ski center.

Highly recommended. The funicular ride itself is nice, and the view from Fløyen is hard to beat. Once you're on Fløyen, I recommend the cafe past the souvenir shop for its delicious buns. Also, on Sundays you can hike a fairly short distance to Brushytten, where you can buy Norwegian waffles (just double-check that it's open before you go). I also like about the funicular that it's not just for tourists -- it's also used by locals to get to and from the city. If conditions permit it, I recommend hiking up or down the mountain for the scenic trails and the amazing views of Bergen.

The trip was great. Easy to follow instructions made the self guided tour a breeze. We loved the cruise through the fjords in the winter no crowds and beautiful sites.

5. Zero Carbon Footprint Tours off the beaten tracks in Western Norway.

Marianne Henriksen & Johnny Reigstad

To travel the beautiful western parts of Norway is an unike experience. And to do so in an exclusive Tesla X 100P with minimum carbon footprint is an even better experience. The car is spacious for up to 4 passengers and it also allow for some luggage. We will provide a WiFi connection for you to use as we go along, but you have to remember that not all of Norway is well covered with good signals. Marianne and Johnny will take you on a trip that leaves the crowded roads and areas and take you to places that not all tourists are able to see. As mass tourism is blooming in Norway we see that almost all operators use the main roads ang give their guests the same experience that the all the others are receiving. This is not the case with us in Skarphedin Travel. Even though we have a time table we will always stop at your request. If you have questions on the way you do not hesitate to ask. We are there for you.

Inclusions: Coffee and/or Tea, Still and sparkling water is included along with a smal selection og soft drinks., A smal lunch based on Norwegian traditional food is included. The lunch is prepared by us and it is important to give us an update on allergy and other concerns.
