Mostly jutting northward from its largest city of Amsterdam and its capital of Haarlem, the Noord-Holland region has much more to offer beyond those two wonderful cities. At Muiden is the magnificent Muiderslot Castle, as if it stepped out of a fairy tale. Showing more wear but no less interesting is Brederode Castle at Santpoort. At Zaanstad is Zaanse Schans, one of Holland’s top tourist destinations and a family-friendly open air museum of windmills, traditional buildings, crafts and shops.

Went to the meeting point at 0830 and found out that the area is under construction and couldn't find T.T. Neveritaweg 59. Went to Pellek entrance and a lady said the area is closed and advised me to walk 'around" to the other side by NDSM Plein in case the entrance is there. Not a soul. On the way at 0850 I phoned the tour operator contact number and got talking to an answering machine. Never got a response. I walked back to TT Nevertiweg and could not find anybody that know where the meeting point is. Phoned and texted the tout operator but not response, even up to now 20 hours later. I spent walking around for an hour for about 8000 steps. Very disappointed.

This was a real highlight of our stay in Alkmaar. You meet the host at her home for homemade apple cake, it’s a short walk to the canal. We tried paddle boarding first which was surprisingly easy. You can stand pretty much straight away. After an hour they allowed us to swap for a kayak to go further with our gorgeous picnic. There was no rushing. No time constraint. Just a lovely day trying something new. Thoroughly recommended.
