The restaurant ELENA has a history of over half a century. It began as a traditional café in the 1960s and became a restaurant in the 1970s with the arrival of the first tourists in the area. At first he offered a few dishes from the pot of the family, th

Traditional family restaurant. We cook with olive oil from our own production and our vegetables are fresh from our garden. Our smile always welcome you and promise that you feel like home!!!
A delightful family-run taverna in the main square of Palaikastro, serving good, traditional Cretan food of high quality. The prices are typical for this area -- for example a plate of dolmades (stuffed vine leaves) for four euros, a large chicken souvlaki for seven euros and fresh sardines for 7.50. A half kilo of the excellent local Toplou wine is six euros. The family is friendly and welcoming and the location is great for watching the world go by. Highly recommended.
Where to eat Greek food in Palaikastron: The Best Restaurants and Bars

Kakavia is a long-established traditional family taverna in an idyllic setting: snuggled close to the ancient Minoan site of Paleokastro, the Minoan peak sactuary of Petsofas, and a Venetian fort on the sea-cliffs of Kastri, and right next to the clean, unspoiled, quiet beaches of Kouremenos (which has excellent wind-surfing facilities) and Chionia. The food is local, simple and ultra-fresh. I had wonderfully-succulent sea bream and kalamari and (ordered especially the day before) the best rabbit I've ever tasted. The house red and white wines, from Toplou monastery, are outstanding. Food and wines are remarkably inexpensive.Kakavia is open every day, all-year round, cooked and served in a friendly welcoming atmosphere overseen by family matriarch Olga. The whole experience (tranquility, ancient history, walks, beaches, food, wines) in this place is soothing to the soul.

Palaikastron Food Guide: 10 Must-Eat Restaurants & Street Food Stalls in Palaikastron
Since our hotel only offered inedible food, we quickly had to find somewhere to eat. Along the beach there were only a few restaurants, and Grandes looked typically greek, so we decided to give it a go...and then we were stuck for the rest of the week. Nice staff who always had time for some chit-chat, even better food, and all in typical greek rural surroundings, with a breathtaking seaview. Definitely worth a visit when you are around.
