I reviewed this place once before and was very unhappy with the service.The owner then invited me to come back next time I was in Veurne as she said the situation with the unfriendly waiter in question had been resolved.So a few weeks ago I went back and what a difference!The food was still good but now the service was very friendly and very helpful too.Will definitely go back next time I stop off in Veurne.

Stopped off en route to centerparcs.Located on the pretty main square this is a friendly Belgian cafe with a very welcoming fireplace on a cold chilly December day.Menu is varied, we had the cheese croquettes which were wonderful and a croque-Monsieur washed down with a rodenbach. Both were very large portions. The kids both had pasta which were absolutely huge.Service was excellent too! Very reasonable lunch for â¬55

Vlak voor de Franse grens en net voordat men het Franse Hondschoote zal gaan bereiken ligt er nog een onooglijk klein Vlaams dorpje verscholen midden de velden.Deze landelijke gemeenschap luistert naar de al wat Frans klinkende naam Houtem.Middenin dit landelijke plaatsje is er een leuk cafeetje aan een klein pleintje met de goed typerende naam het "Klein Plezier".En middenin dit retro etablissement, waar de tijd blijkbaar is blijven stilstaan, staat er een echte leukerd achter de toog, die zeker niet vies is van wat gezwans bij de bediening.De kaart is er beperkt, doch het geserveerde (een spaghetti of een croque) smaakt er overheerlijk.Doch de plaatselijk samengestelde "Pernod Maison", een typisch aperitief drankje van de streek, overklast alles.Van mijn leven heb ik nog nooit zo een lekkere Pernod gedronken.En dat wil toch wel wat zeggen, want ik ben een echte Pernod liefhebber.Ondanks mijn verwoede pogingen om het recept bij de waard alsook bij diens echtgenote, de kokkin van dienst, los te peuteren wilde men er de samenstelling van deze super lekkere Pernod spijtig genoeg niet wereldkundig maken.Wil men deze lekkere "Pernod Maison" dus gaan proeven, dan zal men terplaatse moeten gaan vrees ik.Ik geef zeer zelden een "uitstekend" quotering, doch dit pareltje verdient dit voor de 100%.

We were travelling from the tunnel in Calais to Antwerp and stopped in picturesque Veurne for a quick break. We chanced on De Botermand, in the central marketplace, as there appeared many happy people on the terrace, and we were rewarded with excellent Rombouts coffee and good service - all at low cost. A welcome detour from the grind of the motorway...

We were looking for a meal and found the Au X nestled down a side street just off the main drag.. Very good quality food and a wide selection of Belgian beers on offer.... Choice of inside or streetside tables added to the ambience on a very warm September evening
