Stationen is a restaurant in Longyearbyen opened in July 2018. We serve traditional Norwegian food alongside with international dishes. Everything is home made with compassion and served with an original touch.
We found the internal pub-like ambience of this restaurant very pleasant, were very happy with the food, and had a locally brewed beer. One orders at the bar. Very friendly and helpful service for foreigners at the bar.Thank you for such a wonderful review! All the best from everyone at Stationen

Had a great time even though it was late they took time to serve us and with a smile. The server was fun and connected with our family, all adults. One of us had food allergies which they were more than happy to accommodate him. It is centrally located and the ambiance was cool. Good suggestions for beer and food. Awesome place to visit and eat.

Welcome to Coal Miners' Bar & Grill where we make our food on a charcoal grill! We can offer great-tasting burgers and the best barbeque in town. We also got vegetarian dishes and salads.
We stayed at this fantastic cool "hotel" and had a delicious dinner from the grill. Very tender, very well thyme grilled sirloin with grilled vegetables. The atmosphere is so relaxed, "backpacker-like" and the staff is outstanding nice, helpful and interested in assisting YOU! No preteding being a smart and cool restaurant with ants and moss on the menu; you just feel relaxed and at ease here with honest food. Thank you. Where to eat Norwegian food in Longyearbyen: The Best Restaurants and Bars

This is the in-house bar in the Radisson Blu Polar hotel (reviewed separately on here) but is open to non-residents. Iâve been to Longyearbyen several times before and on every occasion have spent the most time in this bar because of its great atmosphere, wide range of drinks, excellent food and superb music. Since my last stay, it has had a makeover as part of a wider refurbishment of the hotel. This had led to some good and less good changes:On the upside:- the choice of drinks has expanded (weirdly despite the size of the actual bar serving area having got smaller) and it now stocks the range of beers from the local Svalbard Bryggeri, including some on draught, alongside beers from the Mack arctic brewery. - there is a new food menu. The old menu was rather limited but had some great dishes on it and when I first read the new menu â still short but with a few more dishes â I was sad at the loss of such legendary previous main courses as the curried chicken and chili beef pizzas. However, having sampled most of the new items on the updated menu, I can happily say that normal service has been resumed as the pizzas are still excellent and the addition of the âone bowlâ main courses is positively inspired. These are oven-cooked in a mini-casserole dish and presented as such, so everything is in a single bowl in front of you: the beef bourguignon was delicious, full of flavour and rich tastes. When combined, the food & drink provided a perfect accompaniment to spending a few hours sitting in the bar, chatting about the activities youâve just been out doing or just passing the time of day (with it being dark season when we were there, âtimeâ and âdayâ have little meaning and established lunch or dinner regimens merge into one). As the pictures show, we brought our travel chess set down on one occasion and played several games over quite a few beers & pizzas, with each rematch being shorter than the last as the effects of the Spitsbergen IPA beer took hold. Topped off with great food it was one of little moments that makes great memories.On the downside:- who came up with the idea for the new interior décor and who signed it off â Stevie Wonder? Barentzâ appeal used to lay largely in its tenebrous interior, which created a very intimate atmosphere. Even when full you couldnât really see the people at the other end of the bar and sitting up on the knackered leather sofas on the raised stage, your feet sticking to the drink-stained wooden floor (Iâm really selling it here!), was an utter joy: it had a quirky, individual character that contributed to a unique ambience. The new décor is abstract designs, bright lighting and lots of metal railings and bars. The abstract coloured shapes are meant to reflect maritime signal flags - I get that one â and the metal railings & bars, along with the mesh grilles up the walls and across the ceiling in the main hotel, the settlementâs mining heritage â I get that as well â but whatâs the bright lighting about - Stasi interrogation circa 1982? The crepuscular interior has been turned into the equivalent of runway approach lights â ahhh, now I get it - taking away a lot of the intimacy and charm that used to exist. Talking to some of the locals and staff, I am not alone in this view as none of them like it either. There is a huge, Iâm guessing at least 65â, flatscreen TV on one of the walls, which is used to show sporting events. Nothing wrong with that but given the available technology and fact that almost every tourist in the bar has been out doing activities, why not connect the TV to social media feeds and/or allow people to throw their pictures onto the screen? For most of the time we were in the bar this trip (which was many hours over several days), the TV was only on once and it was a missed opportunity. It would be straightforward to show, as an example, tagged pictures on the hotelâs feeds showing what customers have been out doing. The music is still good and the service from the staff friendly and attentive, both at the bar and table service.Overall, I still love this place. The new décor may be a move backwards but the new food offering is better than the old one, plus there are some very enjoyable new beers. Personally, I would dispense with the âgastropubâ description as it doesnât suit the place as this is Svalbard and it doesnât do pretentious. There has been a proliferation in the number of bars & restaurants in Longyearbyen over the past few years, in response to the growing number of tourists visiting the place and it may be that someone who once read a book on marketing thought that Barentz needed a more distinct identify to differentiate its customer proposition (see, I read that book as well) from the competition, even if most of the outlets in the settlement are all owned by the same company. In my opinion, have the confidence to let Barentz stand by what it is, not how it is described or intended to appear. Interestingly, looking at the Tripadvisor reviews since it reopened after the refurbishment, the reviews have been much less favourable than before, so the management would do well to listen to their customers. Progress isnât progress if you go backwards.Still highly recommended, just bring sunglasses or ski googles to recreate the old-style interior atmosphere.Thanks for reading.Dear Machine, Thank you for all your feedback!
