It is home to the country's main naval base. From here the Royal TESO ferryboat service operates the transportation link between Den Helder and the nearby Dutch Wadden island of Texel to the north.

On a visit to see some friends, we were taken here because if my appreciation of good beer and old buildings. I wasnât disappointed, a grand old Napoleonic fort building that hides a micro brewery. We were given a guided tour (â¬7.50 each) with history of the fort, itâs cold war role and a very informative description of the brewing process. This was topped off with samples of their beer (Tripel 7.9%!!!). Coffee on the lawn after in the sunshine was a bonus. Beautiful setting by the canal, well worth the trip. Oh and in the gents theyâve found a novel use for some old beer kegs.

Met een twintig man gezamenlijk in dit restaurant gedineerd. Vooraf twee bekertjes met twee verschillende snoepjes. Goed en smakelijk. Daarna keuze voor een ieder, zoals asperges, vlees of gamba's.De smaken werden over het algemeen goed beoordeeld. Ondergetekende had de gamba's in een bordje met saus. Voor een ieder opgediend met frites en div groenten. De gamba's waren een beetje te "gaar", jammer, maar het geheel was goed verzorgd. Prijs/KWALITEITS verhouding goed.
