Top 5 Points of Interest & Landmarks in Isla de Vieques, Puerto Rico

July 18, 2021 Renato Branum

The glowing Mosquito Bay is a vision of bizarre beauty. Thanks to a bioluminescent microorganism, the water is a cool electric blue, looking somewhat like a fantastical sci-fi lagoon. Kayak or hop into a clear-bottomed pontoon boat to glide along the neon waters. Swimmers and snorkelers will adore the pristine, undeveloped beaches. Keep an eye out for the playful feral horses that gallop along the dunes, or visit the stately ceiba tree that’s been keeping watch over the highland for three centuries.

This tree is amazing! It's a great spot for photos and a little down time. We did this near the end of our day after beach hopping. It was beautiful, peaceful and amazing! We got some great photos. There is a small beach access across from the tree but so many other nicer beaches on the island. This is a quick photo op spot, and a spot to reflect on the beauty we have here!

Once again we had this beautiful spot to ourselves. It is a short flat walk from a parking lot. The lighthouse itself is decaying and is fenced off. There is a sign explaining its history. The views from this point are spectacular!

Sugar Mill Ruins

Vieques' past as a sugar producing island and the history of the two sugar centrals was fascinating. I thoroughly enjoyed the visit to the Sugar Mill Ruins and hope that even more will be done to protect what is left and tell the story of Vieques.
