Bad Ems is a town in Rheinland Pfalz, Germany. It is the administrative seat of the Rhein-Lahn rural district and is well known as a spa on the river Lahn. Bad Ems is the seat of the Verbandsgemeinde (administrative community) Bad Ems. The town has around 9,000 inhabitants.

This mountain railway was opened in 1887 and managed on its way to the 334 metres high "Malberg" a difference in altitude of 260 meters on a distance of 520 metres. It was operated with water ballast. In 1979 the train was closed because of technical defects and two years later became an industrial monument.
