Situated in the village of Wolsingham, the Bay Horse Hotel is a converted 19th century farmhouse. The bar is stunning, warm, comfortable, and inviting. The restaurant is small and quaint, giving the option of an intimate diner for two, or as a party. The rooms are pleasantly decorated and en suite. However, there are a lot of stairs so would not be suitable to some. We spent four nights here, and it felt like family. Staying in room two, we had access to the front balcony. The views from this are great. Taking in a beck, bridge, stone cottages and rolling hillsides, it is an ideal place to while away a few hours with a nice glass of wine. Our hosts, Amanda and Rob, were amazing. Friendly and welcoming, they made us feel at home. As we were the only guests mid-week, they allowed us a good lie-in and made breakfast when we went down, rather than a strict timetable. They had great local knowledge on good walks, attractions and events. They could not do enough for us, even offering a fleece blanket so we could enjoy the balcony one cooler evening. Bed and Breakfast starts at around £50; meals are around £10. A well-stocked bar has a wide variety of drinks, beer and such is from Cameron’s Brewery. The Bay Horse is perfect for a drink, meal or short stay. For walkers, it’s ideally sited for access to Weardale. With only a short stroll to the high street, it’s a great place to forget it all, relax, and enjoy some fresh air.

The Parlour at Blagdon is situated within the Blagdon Estate, just a stone's throw from Northumberlandia. We offer idyllic, rustic and rural surroundings for a delicious meal or drinks within Poppy's Tea Room; a beautiful Grade 2 listed building formerly used as a Smithy. Whether it's a warm summer afternoon or a crisp winter morning we have food and drinks to suit every occasion ranging from cakes & traybakes, snacks & platters to light lunches. You can also enjoy either a pot of tea next to our log burning stove or a glass of wine in the Garden Room. Our food is traditional fayre with an Italian feel and is freshly made to order. Additionally, The Parlour is home of Marcantonio's Ice Cream, all manufactured on-site and based upon the award-winning recipe originally created over 100 years ago in Picinisco, Italy. We also offer a wide range of specialty plants and imaginative gifts. Our younger visitors can explore our outdoor play area whilst you sit back and relax. Well behaved pets are always welcome within our grounds and we are just 1 mile from the A1 Seaton Burn roundabout with ample car parking available on site. The Parlour at Blagdon: a destination with a difference.
There were 4 of us for lunch and the service and food were excellent. It is a lovely room with a very friendly atmosphere and an old world feel. The menu was very interesting and we enjoyed the Curry Vegetable Soup, not too hot but great taste, and 3 of us had the Beef which was superb, and one Lasagne, again excellent. All washed down with Prosecco and Merlot a thouroughly enjoyable experience, worth a visit.
