We walked in and sat at a table, a group of 6 of us, wait staff didn't attend to us for 7 minutes, so we got the menus off their table ourselves.Mains are priced $25-$30, unfortunately portion sizes of some items are rather small. The most expensive main, blue cod, was incredibly stingy. More batter than fish and not even a sufficient portion of chips to fill one up.The restaurant is for sale, hopefully a change of ownership will make a difference. This location has so much potential.

This place does need a major make over as this could make it the leading tourist attraction in Bluff. People travel far for a good feed of fish and chips near the coast. We had coffee outside it was good.

Change of ownership and the addition of Chinese cuisine is a super addition to foods on offer in Bluff. This may well be the best Chinese food in the South. Better than any offering I have had in Invercargill. With a change in decor this cafe could be right up there as a stopover for takeaways or hot snacks.

After a long drive along a scenic coastal road, we arrived at Bluff Point, the southernmost occupied place in South Island. Decided on the spur of the moment to have a late lunch at the Drunken Sailor Cafe, a large restaurant overlooking the Pacific Ocean. We ordered a Seafood Platter for two but for our convenience and at no charge it was divided into two platters, and what a dish! The individual seafood items were tastefully arranged and beautifully cooked to make an excellent feast, perhaps more suited to dinner than for lunch. We both enjoyed the meal and sent our congratulations to the chef. The staff were welcoming and friendly, as we had come to expect from all in New Zealand. The cost of the meal was a shock in that it was so reasonable! I would have no hesitation in recommending a visit.
Finding that the fish and chip shop had run out of fish, we ventured into the Eagle, mostly because it looked warm and dry. The menu is relatively short and itâs not exactly cheap but we found things to order. I started with 6 local oysters, natural, which were delicious. The blue cod was similarly good though Iâve never had it before so canât compare it to any other places. My partner ordered pork ribs but they ran out so supplied belly instead. It must have been most of the pig, cut into thick pieces. About half of it was a bit tough but that still left plenty to eat. All in all a good meal, though it became complicated when we tried to pay with our Aussie cards. Nothing worked but we managed to scrounge enough $NZ and $A to pay the bill.
