I love how it is so close to civilisation but it is a world away! Beautiful lookout points and walk trails. A nice place to explore.

This lake has lots of History which dates back many centuries ago, the aboriginals camped here and used it for food and drink. During the First World War the soldiers from Perth camped and trained here before being sent to Egypt according to the markers put up around the Lake by Alcoa....My husband and I often walk around this Lake, there are lots of wild life, watching the large Pelicans fly over to their nesting place is very pleasant to see...there is also a lookout to walk up to view the lake, ...The walk around this lake takes at least an hour to walk around leisurely.....very enjoyable

Located in the spectacular Shoalwater Islands Marine Park, just 45 minutes south of Perth is Penguin Island- a beautiful, unspoilt nature reserve home to WA's largest colony of little penguin as well as dolphins, sea lions, stingrays, pelicans, ospreys and more. Visitors can see the penguins being fed by rangers at the Discovery Centre. It's also fantastic for swimming, snorkelling, having a picnic or just enjoying some of the best coastal scenery in Perth. Rockingham Wild Encounters operate an hourly ferry service to Penguin Island (it's only a 5 minute ride), glass bottom boat cruises of Shoalwater Bay and adventure style cruises to watch the local dolphins and explore more of the marine park. Sea Kayak Tours and Kite boarding Lessons are also available.
My family have been visiting here, it’s a jewel in the crown of Perth and so few people recognise it. Thoroughly recommend a day trip to see wild and housed penguins, brilliant snorkelling from the shore and a wonderful island walk. A great example of the government positively protecting an island. Oh and my bro was the last person to get married on it too, now 10-years back.
