Harbor Way Gardens is an incredible 1 acre property on the west side of Wrightsville Beach Park. We enjoy it every time we walk by it on the west end of the Loop walk and just visited it after enjoying a stop at the Wrightsville Beach farmers market which backs up to it. It is a tranquil garden with attractive trails, native trees and plants as well as beautiful palms, a cottage, statues, and stone walkways. There is a small playground and an attractive fountain with pulsating water spouts for kids to play in. The gardens are maintained by the Harbor Island Garden Club and is a true gem in Wrightsville Beach.

We love Wrightsville Beach Park and have been using it for 35 years, particularly the well manicured baseball/softball field. The park is located on Harbor Island with much of it bordering the Loop and has something for everyone. There are 4 tennis courts,3 volleyball courts, a basketball court, football/soccer field as well as that great baseball field with the short left field fence at 240', but with the Fenway high wall. There are also walking trails, exercise stations, bike stands, a Loop cut thru, vending machines and rest rooms. In the back of the park there is a playground, covered picnic shelters and camps, lessons. tournaments and summer programs are held here. On Thursday evenings in the summer, the park hosts concerts in the park. It also borders the Harbor Way Gardens, the farmers market and the Wrightsville Beach History Museum. Wrightsville Beach Park is a true gem and we enjoy it every time we are in town.

We stayed at the Holiday Inn on the north side of the island. The beach here is rather gritty with lot of broken shells - wear foot protection. As you go north, there is plenty of parking and access. We prefer the sandier south end - go all the way to parking at the end of the road. There is also street parking. The cost is $5 per hour or $25 per day. You can walk around the nesting area to calmer water on the other side of the breakwater.
