Hidden gems of Yucatan, such as Tulum, Akumal, Chetumal, Chichen Itza and Merida, offer an authentic taste of Mexico. Akumal and more Caribbean-style Chetumal, near the Belize border, deliver delectable white-sand beaches and great snorkelling. Merida, Chichen Itza and Tulum, with their ancient ruins, offer a passage into the Yucatanâs native history. Nature lovers can jungle trek and swim in subterranean sinkholes filled with crystal-clear water. Bike around the ruins and hop between towns in colectivo vans.

Huge underwater nature reserve, featuring many different species of coral and fish: a diver's delight.
Many dive sites with an incredible visibility to explore. Healthy corals, lots of sponges and many sea creatures. You could spend months diving here and not get tired of this place!

This is a beautiful park/island that is host to thousands of frigate birds. There are also over a hundred other birds that occur there but we saw only 5 species in total. That was quite disappointing but nature does what it does.

Although Chichen Itza is far more famous and bigger, the Tulum dramatic position on the cliff edge above the turquoise sea is unbeatable. The site is easy reachable from PDC in around an hour, and from Cancun in less than 2 hrs. For detailed plan and tips on how to visit on your own, please read my review about the Tulum archeologic site. The only downside is you cannot swim at the Mayan beach beneath the ruins, as it's closed due to Covid.
