Authentic Moroccan in a charmingly themed decoration. Excellent Couscous and Tagine, good service, reasonable prices with copious servings.

Middle-eastern and north African are among my favourite cuisines, and this place is one of the best I have tried. It's tucked away in a little side-street not far from the cathedral in the Old Town.I called in on a Saturday evening and the place was quite busy with what looked like a "works outing" (Xmas meal), some family groups, etc. Service attentive but unobtrusive. Decor exotic but not overpowering. Starter was a concoction of orange and beetroot that had an alluring, ethereal taste - ideal palate-cleanser. Main course was the Merguez Plate, involving semolina grains, a sauce, and three long spicy Merguez sausages. When it arrived I thought "uh-oh, too much for me here, I may struggle to finish this." After a couple of mouthfuls I was somehow down to my final Merguez sausage. Deliciously light semolina grains and an ideally counterpointing piquant sauce.I skipped dessert in favour of a fig liqueur which was pulse-quickeningly hot and an ideal digestif. This place doesn't look particularly special from the outside and its location in the city is not exactly going to bring it a lot of passing trade. However if you are in Belfort for any reason you should go up and see the Lion, and you should also definitely check out the Gazelle.
