We did not eat there on this trip, but just had to say something about this place. Old time favorite for my craving of tamales. I started eating here when in the first location and now in the new place. They have from just plain tamales to tamales covered with chili and the fixin's. Will always be my favorite tamale place.
You will find this little gem of a Mexican restaurant hidden in a strip mall. Don't let the location concern you! The food is authentic and delicious! You must try the Sunday buffet, the pork street tacos, the tamales, the guacamole, everything! I have never gotten a bad meal here! I visit every time I come to town. NOTE: Fun karaoke on Friday nights

My husband and I LOVE Mexican/Tex-Mex food. I wouldn't call this neither. We knew the instant we tasted their salsa. Tasted like a can of tomatoes that they opened and added chopped onions to it, very sweet and tin canish flavor ....horrible. Chips were stale and tasted like they came from a bag. I ordered the chicken/beef fajitas and they were bland. No spices or flavor what so ever. My husband asked for a chimichanga with steak fajita meat (which has never been a problem at any other mexican restaurant), and they told him they only offered them with shredded beef. He said it tasted like a hunk of meat they threw in a pot of boiling water. Neither one of us could finish our meal, except for the frozen margarita. Not because it was that great but because we were trying to kill the taste in our mouth. We were here maybe four years ago and it was very good. Don't know what happened to the place.

I thought the food was good, it tasted like any other Taco Bell which is almost always pretty good stuff. The girl at the counter was kind of stand offish, but she did get our order out in a timely fashion so I couldn't complain.John S. Thank you so much for your vivid and graphic detail on your review. Like I really give a crap. You could have just left it at that it griped your stomach or something but thanks for the mental image dude way to go! TMI!

Super friendly staff, orders are prepared and delivered quickly and the food is surprisingly high quality. Notice the only derogatory comment about this restaurant is from someone claiming it's not Tex Mex. Which is both hilarious and pathetic on the part of that reviewer. El Potro doesn't even claim to be Tex Mex. Their use of chorizo and goat cheese lends itself far more to a Yucatanian flare. Great homemade salsa too.You really can't go wrong here.
