Most of the time Tripadvisor reviews can be trusted but not in this case. We have been to many Mexican restaurants in the United States and in Mexico. None of their food is anywhere near authentic tasting. The burrito looked more like an enchilada and the chicken mole had little chicken. Both entrees were less than desirable. The free Sunday dessert was delicious. The servers were prompt. We will not return.

Privately owned but another one in Storm Lake, IA Good authentic Mexican Food.

This used to be a great little restaurant. Now their food is inconsistent. The employees seem totally disengaged from the clientele. There's a smell of old cooking oil saturating the place. It's as if they just don't care or would prefer you not being there. So I'll save them the trouble and not go back.

Great service, good food. The food was nothing special, but it was hot and fast and Mexican. The salsa is good. This place didn't show up on a restaurant search of TripAdvisor. It's a good thing I saw it driving through downtown. Choices are limited in Spencer on a Monday.

I'll start off by agreeing that it's Taco John's, not necessarily a fine dining experience. I went in with relatively low expectations, but this Taco John's has been historically one of the better ones. Unfortunately, they seem to have become like every other TJ around. Ordered a couple of combo meals for the two of us. The chicken quesidilla was devoid of any chicken. Just 1/8" inch of runny cheese between 2 thin little tortillas. The stuffed deal I had wasn't stuffed with much of anything. Basically a very thin hardshell taco with sparse meat, wrapped in a tortilla softshell and grilled like a panini. The entire entree weighed about 3 oz and wasn't much bigger than a deck of cards. Potato Ole's were good as usual, but the rest was quite a letdown. If it were not so busy, we would have brought to their attention. We had to wait 10+ minutes for the food and just wanted to get out at that point. I went in with low expectations, but they failed to reach that. I'm done with TJ's.
