Reviews on Mexican food in Gonzales, California, United States. tourist attractions include driving through and not looking at tourist attractions
This is your basic Mexican restaurant. It is owned by a family that has been in the business for about 40 years. Their old building was torn down and they were going to retire but the folks in Gonzales would not hear of it. They opened right across the street from the old place and have the same recipes. The lady cooking is the boss.

This little roadside dive serves the best Mexican food I have ever had. I have only eaten here twice, but it is muy fantastico!! They serve cokes made with cane sugar. If you didn't know any better you might imagine you were actually in Mexico. Many of the other diners were Spanish speaking only. The FIFA world cup matches were just starting and the masses were gathering to watch. For a little hole in the wall this place has outstanding food. The service can be a bit slow, but with only one waitress and a cook there is very little to complain about!!
The place doesn't look like much, but the food is excellent. I had a Burrito Pastor and it was great, as was my son's chicken burrito. I plan on stopping in next time I'm through and trying the cabeza tacos. They kept coming out order after order and they looked fantastic. If you're driving through on 101 skip the fast food chains or the big city stuff and stop off here for some authentic Mexican food, charred jalapenos included
