Top 5 Lodges in Providencia Island, Colombia

May 6, 2023 Leonarda Pillsbury

Providencia Island’s nickname: The Sea of Seven Colors. A visit to McBean Lagoon National Natural Park is really all you need for the quintessential island experience. It’s an otherworldly place where mangroves sway over waters that sparkle every shade of blue. Local fishermen will happily take you on an island tour or even to wrangle the day’s catch. Lounge on peaceful white sand beaches or take a romantic stroll across the wooden “Lovers Bridge” that leads to neighboring Santa Catalina island.

Lovely little posada

This is a charming and clean little place with a fantastic view. The small playground is a bonus if you have children. The room is comfortable with AC, TV, fridge and kettle. The breakfasts are lovely and they change the food everyday and provide fresh fruit juice. It's a little bit out of town and there are no shops or restaurants nearby so you need to hire a vehicle. I would highly recommend staying here.

Terrible

Long story short, the owners charged us much more than we should have paid. The place itself is old and nothing special, but that's not the point. They charged us much more money that they should have, and on top of that, they started negotiating the price and called a guy from the immigration office threatening us and saying we could not leave the island without paying. And it looked like a scheme they have done before. We eventually paid more than should have, and they put us on no show on Booking.com trying to charge my credit card again. Absolutely terrible experience. Do not stay here.

BEAUTIFUL place to stay

Loved my cabana at Posada Juan Carlos. It had everything I needed, A/C, TV + DVD (to watch PADI diving video!), kitchen. Really good value on an island that is normally more expensive than the mainland. Love the colours he has painted the cabanas in. The driveway of palms is just gorgeous. No hesitation to recommend.

They seem not to care much in low season

Reviewed By Benjamin V

The service and the breakfast would maybe have been better if the owner was on site but she wasn't. The rooms are very basic but ok. There was construction work in the house during the stay so it was loud in the morning already. The main issue was the bad smell in the bathroom (should be fixed it in the meantime). The organized fishing and snorkling trip was very nice.

Maravilloso!!

Totalmente recomendado.
