Bethesda is an unincorporated, census-designated place in southern Montgomery County, Maryland, United States, located just northwest of the U.S. capital of Washington, D.C. It takes its name from a local church, the Bethesda Meeting House (1820, rebuilt 1849), which in turn took its name from Jerusalem's Pool of Bethesda. In Aramaic, ܒܝܬ ܚܣܕܐ beth ḥesda means "House of Mercy" and in Hebrew, בית חסד "beit ḥesed" means "House of Kindness". The National Institutes of Health main campus and the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center are in Bethesda, as are a number of corporate and government headquarters.

We visited Bethesda and found Gringos & Mariachis to be very authentic Mexican food. The Staff was also quite friendly & quick. We will return again. Besides the food, they have quite a list of creative & unique drinks. We asked for some adjustments to some drinks, like replacing tequila for mezcal, and they gladly accommodated our requests. Net, very worthy experience.

Order a few small plates to share, and enjoy. We ordered fewer plates than was recommended, but it was plenty for us. And the 'house wine' (bottled for Jaleo) was excellent. I will return as soon as I can.

Real Tapas place with innovative small plates (tapas). Meat/fish, vegetables, and starch are all available. They are good tasting and well prepared. They even have Tempernillo as a house wine-by-the-glass.I was really happy until someone started smoking a very strong and penetrating cigar somewhere in the back of the house. Offensive and illegal, and I couldn't exit quickly enough.

We came on a Thursday before a Strathmore show, and it was already packed by 1830. I love Mexican and I love innovative street tacos, so I really wanted to try this place. The vibe was good, if not more urban and less traditional cantina. Our waitress was friendly and helpful in making recommendations. I had a margarita and my husband had a cocktail; both were tasty but didn't pack much punch for the price. The tacos were tiny and hit or miss. Even the ones that I liked I was disappointed, because by the time you got a taste of it, it was gone. I especially liked the Mexico City Pastor, and the Baja Fish was pretty good as well. The crispy kale and the cauliflower ones were underwhelming. It was good to try once but I don't think we'll rush back.

The cuisine is Tex-Mex and some Peruvian dishes with seafood and duck. The portions are large and prices reasonable. It is located in a strip mall with a Home Depot, where parking is free but limited. The family-run restaurant is busy but service keeps up with the demand (my water glass was never empty as they constantly topped it off). The quality of the food was very good (my Carne Asada was tender and cooked to order-medium) and there are plenty of menu choices for everyone. They willingly substituted the rice & beans with the mixed vegetable side (celery, carrots, green peppers & onions cooked al dente). Not a gourmet destination, but a great local restaurant that you want to return to.
