Tsunami is Lafayette's culinary escape. It opened in 2000 in the historic downtown arts and entertainment district. It fancies itself as the hippest eatery in the 337. LA flare with southern care!
Arrived a bit earlier than our reservation, but was seated promptly. Ambience is nice. You can sit at the counter and watch sushi being made. After ordering edamame, we ordered a mix of raw and cooked sushi. My son loves raw sushi and ate it all. I like cooked sushi (sea bass roll) and it was good and flavorful. I tried a mojito-like drink with my meal, but only drank half of it as it was too muddled to drink (floating mint and lemon seeds). Great presentation of all foods, especially as this was a birthday dinner for a friend. Special dessert for the birthday guy. My dessert was a Japanese take on bread pudding and it was delicious. Great staff and service! Will visit again.

All the other places in town pretty much suck from one varying degree to another. This place sucks the least out of the rest. Get the sea bass roll. It's fried (it South Louisiana). Substitute the fake crab stuck for the tempura (farm raised) shrimp. In all, it tastes fine with a cold beer. But order out, because the tiny little place is a dump. Take notice of the piles and piles of papers and receipts and crap stacked up near the front! It's a one man operation. They back up on the weekends. Order early, and put a good movie on at home.

The sashimi was fresh and beautifully presented. The seared tuna has a nice vinaigrette to compliment the crispy mixed spring salad. The scallops were succulent, unfortunately thê lobster was on the drier side. Overall, the service was attentive and friendly. Great dining experience for Lafayette.
