A friend persuaded me to try this place recently, and it is now my favorite Japanese restaurant, even beating Shogun. This is more modern Japanese food, and they feature several fried rolls.The volcano roll is excellent -- a bit spicy, but good -- and the terminator roll is also excellent. The texas holdem roll is not too bad either. They have a salmon teriyaki box that is also great. The teriyaki sauce, like at Shogun, is a real sauce, not a thin brown glaze.The people are friendly and cheerful. The owner came out and spoke with us, and the sushi chef came over to see if we were enjoying the meal.This was one of my favorite experiences ever in a Japanese restaurant.

We heard about Ichiban Sushi from the owner, who also owns our favorite place for a burger, Aromas Grill in Aromas. Well worth the drive to Prunedale: very fresh fish, efficient service, and great preparation (including some inventive and well-balanced rolls). The Bento Box lunch includes soup or salad, vegetable tempura, two or three selections from a varied list of hot and cold items, and doesn't include rice which makes for a more suitable lunch-sized meal.This was definitely the best sushi that I didn't pay a fortune for. We'll be back.

The food was really good and a lot of it.The bento box was somewhat pricey compared to my town of Modesto,but this is in the Monterey area.The owner(waitress) was very friendly.The bento box came with 2 items,rice,soup,salad and was quite delicious.Everything was prepared perfectly and the service was excellent.We will be back.Take out is available too!It also can accommodate large dining parties.Give it a try!!

Fabulous Japanese food! Clean restaurant. Went here for the soft shell crab tempura dinner and was not disappointed. Generous portions, ample sides (came with salad, soup and rice) and delicious. We also order the shrimp yaki soba (a gluten free choice) and it too came with soup and salad and an assortment of tempura vegetables. More than enough food, all of it fresh and delicious. I highly recommend it

My son found this place online and we enjoyed good Japanese food. They have a respectable menu of ramen, udon and donburri. Service and food was very good although no one spoke Japanese. And just not a clean place although pretty artwork. In Japan even modest restaurants like this would be very clean. If in the area again we will go back.
