We had lunch here on a weekday afternoon. The four of us each chose a different entree; they were all very good, and fairly typical fare in a western-style Japanese restaurant. Everything was fresh and nicely prepared. What sets it off, though, is the soup, salad, bread, and beverage bar that comes with the meal. The salad produce was very good, with several dressing choices, the bread tasted like it was just out of the oven, and there was a good selection of non-carbonated beverages. Service was friendly and pleasant, and the dining room is quite attractive, overlooking the lake.

I ate here a lot during my year of living in Shimosuwa, since I was only a block away. I never go to Denny's in the States, but I love Japan's Denny's! Their desserts are always top-notch. My only complaint was that the non-smoking and smoking sections were just different parts of the restaurant which were completely connected. I never had a problem with this, though, and I'm very sensitive to smoke. The staff were super nice and attentive. I speak a little Japanese, so I never communicated in English. I'm not sure if anyone here speaks English, but you can always point to the picture of what you want and be understood. Anyway, if you're looking for a place to eat in Shimosuwa, I definitely recommend Denny's.
