i stumbled on this lovely restaurant in Fukuoka @ the Parco department store B1. We actually had intended to dine at one of the Yatai stalls that evening, but the weather was appalling and it seemed that the particular stall didn't open. Anyway, we were fortunate enough to try the restaurant and had their famous Hamburger steak and Wagyu style steaks as well. The meal was excellent, absolutely loved the whole DIY bbq concept. The meats were well seasoned and came with a choice of dipping sauces. We went for the standard bbq sauce and a Ponzu one as well. I only noticed this place as it was the only restaurant that had a constant queue. I know the japanese like to queue, but this was WELL worth it!!!!! It's worth mentioning that there are a chain of these restaurants dotted around, not sure exactly where, as the website is in Japanese, but would assume that it could be found in other major cities like Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka.

In line with their name, "Kiwa - Ultimate" "Mi - Taste" "Ya - Place", this 20 seat restaurant offers you the ultimate tasty Hamburger Steak with may options. First, you choose the size; S, M, L, L+, and you choose how it's cooked outside; "Sumibiyaki - Charcoal Grilled" or "Teppanyaki - Iron Plate", then you pick the sauce you want; Base Tare, Onion, Pink Salt, Ponzu, Egg, Wasabi, Soy.. When the hamburger steak comes out in a round ball shape, you get to cook it yourself per your taste on a sizzling round stone, much like KyuKatsu, as the inside is raw meat. Make sure you put the provided paper apron as they'll be really sizzling. With added JPY 300, you can make it a Set, including small Salad, Rice, Miso Soup, and Soft Ice Cream for desert. It was really very tasty along with the fact it was such a fun cooking it yourself, beware there's always a long line waiting to get in.. I went there at 4:30 pm thinking there wouldn't be that many people around that time, but ended up getting in close to 6 pm.. Without the waiting, it'd be a great way to enjoy a lunch/dinner at around Hakata Station.

This Korean style restaurant is the best for a wide selection of grilled meats. Especially the rare parts of the cow such as the tongue, diaphragm, intestines, etc., come in several varieties that all taste great. As custom in Korean restaurant the grills are build into the table so it is nice entertainment to cook yourself as well. The taste is a bit adapted to Japanese style, i.e. not very spicy, except for the Korean soup. Specially recommended is the horse meat, served sashimi style or slightly grilled. We liked very much the tartare version of this with the typical Korean egg. They have a very good selection of alcoholic drinks, the Chilean red wine (reserve) was fantastic for the price of 2500 yen. We also suggest the plum wine for desserts. The tables in the semi-separated rooms on the first floor are giving a nice feeling of intimacy. Don't forget to push the button for instantaneous service, otherwise you might be waiting for a while before they discover that you don't know the system.

Wow, the beef is really well cooked. For ordering, you get to choose the set that goes with your beef, then you get to select the part of beef you want. For those who cannot differentiate, they provide a description of the various parts (Not all parts are available everyday.). Then you get to choose how you want the meat to be cooked. English menu is available for those who cannot read Japanese. Drinks menu however is only available in Japanese, but the waitress can assist. So no worries. Finally, i have to say again that the cooking is superb and we just might go back again before we leave fukuoka.

It is a bright dining room located in the alley in Fukuoka City, Watanabe Dori. We make delicious set meals daily with fresh fish that can be harvested in the Genkai Sea. The menu changes daily depending on the condition of arrival of fish, and monthly sh
This is one of our all-time favorites. In fact, the traditional set menus here are so consistently good, we will often walk a few miles just to end up at the Umeyama Teppei Shokudou as a reward. You simply can't got wrong with the daily specials of fish served, Shioyaki-style, broiled with a sprinkling of salt or the sweet, succulent Nitsuke-sauce sauteed catch of the day. Naturally, all sets come with rice, miso soup, pickles, and a side dish such as hijiki or Hakata gameni. And there are so many varieties of fish that you may need to ask the staff for help in deciding. Bringing along a Japanese friend who can read the menu is a good idea, since there are no pictures. That lets you know that this is a place for locals who really know traditional Japanese seafood. If you are not crazy about fish, try the amazing karaage, a Japanese-style boneless fried chicken that truly makes the Colonel look like a private. On each table, you'll notice the signature shiso furikake, a home-made creation that you ladel onto your rice. Highly addictive. Try it, you'll like it.Another nice thing about Umeyama Teppei is that they don't serve your favorite lunch set for a jacked-up price at dinner. It's always reasonable, the same price all day, and you're always glad that you came for this authentic home-style Japanese meal. Just like mama used to make, if she were Japanese, and a professional chef with master carving skills and access to the finest local ingredients.
